Mrs. Revaé Ross is the Sumner High School Director of Bands. She started her teaching career in 2013 as the director of bands at Brandon High School and became the Director of Bands at Sumner High School in 2022. Throughout her teaching career, Mrs. Ross has conducted several wind ensembles, symphonic bands, jazz ensembles, percussion ensembles, and marching bands.
She received her Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the Florida State University College of Music. While a student at Florida State University, Mrs. Ross studied music education with Dr. Cliff Madsen, Dr. Patrick Dunnigan, and Dr. Steven Kelly, conducting with Professor Richard Clary and Dr. Patrick Dunnigan, and saxophone performance with Professor Patrick Meighan. She was also an active member of the Marching Chiefs where she served as saxophone section leader and assistant drum major. Mrs. Ross is also a sister of the Alpha Omega chapter of Tau Beta Sigma band sorority.

As an active member of the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) and president of the Hillsborough County Secondary Music Council (HCSMC), she has served as All-County coordinator and Overall Chair. During the summer months, Mrs. Ross serves as a staff member for the Fred Gebhardt Leadership Camp and the University of South Florida Summer Band Camp. Along with being a member of FBA and HCSMC, her professional organizations also include the Florida Music Educators Association and the National Association for Music Education.
Her philosophy of music education focuses heavily on creating an exciting and positive musical experience that develops independent, successful musicians who strive for excellence and well-rounded students who thrive in our community as purposeful individuals.
Mr. Jahari Montero is Inaugural Director for the Color Guard and Winter Guard programs at Sumner High School. Jahari graduated from East Bay High School where he began his guard journey his freshman year. Jahari started choreographing his sophomore year with small group ensembles and solos at district and state levels, which received superior ratings and a first place solo at the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit (FFCC) state championships before starting the guard program here at Sumner High School in 2021.

In this time, he has developed the program into an award-winning ensemble at regional competitions. His goal is to provide a fun and unforgettable experience for the students, while teaching them the basics of dance, and all the basics and hardships of spinning equipment. He believes Color Guard is more than just spinning a flag. It’s about creating a unique and memorable story to convey to the audience to remember for years to come.
Band Captain presides over all band officers and affairs concerning the band, supervises all other student leaders, is responsible for aiding in teaching drill and fundamentals during marching season to all band and auxiliary members, assembles stage crew(s) during concert season, and performs any other duties deemed necessary by the Band Director.
Drum Major attends drum major camp, supervises section leaders, is responsible for aiding in teaching drill and marching fundamentals, assists other band members in being prepared at every rehearsal and performance, is responsible for organization of inspection before each performance, and assists Director with attendance for rehearsals and performances.
Captain (WW/Brass/Drum) is responsible for all musical sections of the marching show, is responsible for scheduling and conducting sectionals, communicates regularly with the band captain, is responsible for making sure each member in their section has instrument that is in good condition, assists with inspection process before performances, is responsible for keeping record of music/equipment assigned and collected, and assists director and sponsor with recordkeeping.
Colorguard Captain communicates regularly with the band captain and colorguard sponsor, is responsible for making sure each member in their section has equipment that is in good condition, assistance with inspection process before performances, is responsible for keeping record of colorguard equipment assigned and collected, and performs any other duties deemed necessary by the Band Director.
Equipment Manager is responsible for all equipment used by the band (including the sound system), assists director with keeping a record of school-owned instrument usage and forms, is responsible for loading and unloading of all equipment needed at rehearsal and performances, and is responsible for securing a crew for each event, and performs any other duties deemed necessary about the Band Director.
Uniform Manager is responsible for all uniforms used by the band, assists Director with keeping record of school-owned uniform usage and forms, is responsible for inspection of uniforms at all performances for officers and members, and performs other duties deemed necessary by the Band Director.
Librarian is responsible for all music used throughout the year by the band, is responsible for keeping record of music assigned and collected, is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the band library, organizes a filing system and updates the database of the music library regularly, and performs any other duties deemed necessary by the Band Director.
Historian is responsible for maintaining the band bulletin board, is responsible for chronicling band activities, organizes the records/files/images, displays the band activities creatively, and performs other duties deemed necessary by the Band Director.
