The Stylings of Symphonic Band

Instruction

Unlike the marching band, majority students in the concert bands perform in a seated position. The symphonic band is for basic to intermediate skill level. The members of the group receive a solid foundation in music education, from technical performance instruction on their instrument, to a broad overview of music appreciation and understanding. The students work on their playing skills, improving their tone, musicianship, and technique in this ensemble.

The Soothing Sounds Of Jazz Band

Instruction

The key learning objectives for jazz band include building experience with improvisational melodies and rhythm. The students work on their playing skills, learning the concepts of playing jazz (phrasing, improvisation, articulations, rhythm patterns, and blend). The instrumentation is based on the big bands of the 1930's and 1940's and exploration of all styles in the genre.

The traditional jazz band instruments are: saxophones (alto, tenor, baritone), trumpets, trombone, guitar, bass, piano, and drums.

Presenting The Wind Ensemble

Instruction

The wind ensemble is the most advanced. Students are placed in the ensemble that best fits their skill set and that will allow them the most growth as a performer. Music for this ensemble will be more technically challenging and requires extensive discipline. Wind ensembles are smaller ensembles with only one or two players on each part. The wind ensemble incorporates the same elements as the symphonic band. But the elements are at a more advanced level.

Let’s Hear That Percussion

Instruction

Percussion is more than just drums. Students in the percussion ensemble study under the direction of a dedicated percussion instructor. The members of this ensemble can explore numerous percussion instruments, various styles, and techniques. We have a variety of traditional and nontraditional percussion and mallet instruments on which the students learn and perform - from marimbas, to timpani, to vibraphones and concert drums.
