Instruction
The students learn and perfect their field marching skills in this course. The band formations on the field are called drills. Every member of the band has an important role in creating the desired visual effects for the audience. Transitioning from one formation to the next involves band members either moving all together and some members scattering independently. Props are often used on the field to enhance the show.
Instruments
The marching band is an assembly of three instrument families: woodwinds, percussion, and brass.
Woodwinds: clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, piccolo, and saxophones (alto, baritone, and tenor).
Percussion: bass drum, cymbal, tenor drum (quads), and snare drum.
Brass: euphonium (marching baritone horn), mellophone (marching French horn), trombones (also includes bass and tenor), trumpet, and sousaphone (marching tuba).
